More bears

Here's a page with a sticky note stuck to it of some bear doodles I did yesterday while waiting for renders.. It's a a page in all it's unaltered glory with random heads and arms and everything. I went for a more shapey approach with most of these.... It's weird how stereotypical and cliche some of these designs can get.. A while back I developed a series idea with some friends of mine that had a polar bear in it.. and I'm trying hard not to make this bear resemble that one. Because it's not the same character.... but in some sketches it does.. And I've seen other polar bear and penguin designs (there was a penguin in the series as well) that have looked ridiculously close to the designs we came up with back then. It strange how as artists we can draw very similar conclusions on how to simply describe a form.. Anyway.. Enjoy the page of weird inconsistant bears =)...

So far my favorite one is the two on the bottom of the first page of your yesterday post .Look a bit more realistic but pretty sure if you go from there it can turn out great.Like you said the other just keep reminding me hero bear .You can always look at Balto for some great design..

Thanks Duker.. I personally like the bottom left on on that first page from yesterday.. But I wanna explore all the different areas.. Yeah Balto had some nice Bears.. I'm trying not to look at anything though.. Don't wanna be too influenced by one thing.. but as you can see.. that happens subconsiously anyway. Hence all the Hero bear like ones.. Your comments are very appreciated. keep em coming!..

Yeah, I'm developing a bear/beaver film too for my AM short film class. The animatic is done and I posted on my blog a couple months ago.Soo... yeah I think bears rule! Kyle had some great polar bear drawings awhile ago so he might be a good person to get some drawings from too. Personally for my film, I'm going with a Freddy Moorish bear but I'd like to try and clean it up without any outlines to keep a graphic appeal too. Anyways, I'm rambling but it's cool that you're developing a film too. You should post the animatic when it's done!

yep, I'm doing a traditional short because I don't want to deal with modeling or rigging or any of that stuff. My cg experience will be pretty much be animation exclusive. So I'll stick with short pantomime or lipsync exercises in maya. Traditional animation has all the gold anyways :)
